Mindfulness
Mindfulness is the tool to awareness. Becoming aware of who we are, where we are and our role in the Universe, helps us become aware of how we show up with others.
By becoming aware we are able to notice our emotions. Once we notice the emotions, it is within our power to change them, accept them or stay with them.
YOU have the power to choose.
I remember when I started to put more effort into this practice; I quickly realized I wasn’t really breathing. My breath was almost stuck in my throat. It was so hard for me to simply notice that and let it all go. After practice, I began to see a change. Pain flowed out as I let the breath truly release.
I started setting alerts on my phone to remind myself to take time to breathe and be mindful. I had no idea my phone would become a mindful tool. What a positive way to use the technology and make the device in our hand a tool for something good.
Maybe consider adding a mindful break into your day.
Set a timer for 2 minutes every hour. Notice your surroundings. Notice your breath. Notice the way your body responds to this break. When feelings arise, notice them and send them away in a thought cloud and say, "I notice you.” Then, thank yourself and smile for this break and go back to your day.
You can pick a type of mindfulness based on your senses: one of sound, of sight, of taste, of touch or of smell.
